Dolpo is in the far west of Nepal. The entire district was closed to trekkers until 1989 and still remains relatively untouched. Buddhist in culture the Dolpo region contains the colors and traditions of an ancient way of life.
There are no tea houses and there is no straight forward way in or out of Dolpo. It is a steep and rugged environment, suitable for the adventurous traveler. There are no modern facilities and one must be prepared to be flexible as flights are not as reliable as in other areas.
Phoksumdo Lake with its deep blue waters and mysterious surroundings is an unforgettable destination. The main temple, is said to be over 60 generations old and one of the few remaining active facilities dedicated to Bon Po religion, the antecedent of Tibetan Buddhism
